The Art and Science of Prediction

For as long as there have been financial markets, analysts have constructed models in an attempt to predict future price movements. For the most part, their method has centered on analyzing the past in the hope of divining the future.

But what other tools are there to predict future behavior? What can be learned from seemingly unrelated fields of knowledge, such as epidemiology, entomology (more specifically the life of bees), and psychology? What do these new tools have in common? And how to incorporate them into existing models?
