OSINT: An Introduction to Online Research in Chinese

Researching online in a foreign language using a different writing system can seem intimidating. The prevailing narrative is that one must be a native speaker of a language to find useful information.
This introduction will show you that researching in Chinese is quite easy due to the simplicity of the language, and that prior knowledge of Mandarin is not necessary if you wish to find valuable information online.
This short 3-hour introduction will walk you through a selection of tools and techniques to perform online research in Chinese.
You will learn how to type and write digitally in Chinese. You will also learn how to select the right keywords, develop the appropriate search strategy, and transliterate and translate effectively,
This session will also cover how to search for personal names in Chinese, before ending with a collective research exercise.
